Spring Break
Airbnb found that many millennial Chinese travelers don’t believe that immersive and local travel experiences can be found on a short holiday. For the upcoming Spring Break holidays, we wanted to prove just that.
Our concept, Been There Not Done That, explores the little-known sides of well-known cities. We’ve tapped into our local Airbnb community in each key city to unfold stories that are yet to be told.
We curated off-the-beaten-track experiences for every traveler can now have a taste of authentic local life. For each city’s story, we launched a custom itinerary, interactive WeChat editorial, video and photo series.
Art direction and design for the campaign, and illustrations in collaboration with Mark Conlan.
Taipei: Music In The Air
Classical music playing from garbage trucks, a coffee break at a Hip-hop vinyl store, a Mandopop concert in a century-old market, creative cocktails made by budding musicians, open-air Karaoke in riverside parks and an Airbnb host with a record player in every room... find out what makes Taipei’s music culture so warm and unique, like its people.
Okinawa: Simple Joys In Green
A landscaped hillside garden inspired from the 1700s, a sacred hidden spring said to be the island’s purest, farm-to-table, home-styled food at a restaurant set against a cliff, a BBQ dinner with the day’s fresh catch under the twinkling stars and a hammock on the terrace in an Airbnb listing by a whispering forest… turn your back to the beach, and liberate yourself with the lush green life of ‘the other Okinawa’.
Seoul: Slowing Down in Style
A moment of pause in a traditional yet modern Hanok home, purposely ‘old-fashioned’ young Hyehwa People, a café that’ll take you back to the 1920s, a tranquil Tea House with a literary connection and an unexpected mountain escape in the heart of Seoul... slow down in a city famous for flashy cosmetic reality with its quaintly charming side.
Bangkok: Creativity Around The Corner
Fashion shows in neighbourhood alleys, latte art made by robots, a nail salon within a café, riverside warehouses converted into mixed-art spaces and an Airbnb host with a design studio inside his home… the new creative energy in Bangkok is as warm and accessible as the city itself. Go beyond ornate temples, fried scorpions and floating markets - your next inspiration might be waiting just around the corner.
